Workplace stress has become a critical concern in healthcare settings worldwide, where the pressures of patient care, long working hours, and organizational demands often lead to burnout and other mental health challenges. In Kano State, healthcare workers face unique stressors, including inadequate resources, high patient volumes, and insufficient support systems, which contribute to their mental health struggles (Ahmed & Ibrahim, 2024).
The impact of workplace stress on healthcare workers is profound, leading to increased absenteeism, decreased job satisfaction, and reduced quality of care. Mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), are common among healthcare professionals in high-stress environments (Olafimihan et al., 2025). This study evaluates the extent of workplace stress in Kano’s healthcare sector and explores its effects on the mental health and well-being of healthcare workers.
Healthcare workers in Kano State experience high levels of stress due to the demanding nature of their work and organizational challenges. Despite the critical role of these professionals in maintaining public health, the mental health of healthcare workers is often overlooked. This neglect leads to adverse outcomes, including burnout, decreased job performance, and increased turnover rates. The study seeks to assess how workplace stress affects the mental health of healthcare workers in Kano State and recommend strategies for alleviation.
This study focuses on healthcare workers across public hospitals and clinics in Kano State. It explores the relationship between workplace stress and mental health, with particular attention to issues such as burnout, depression, and anxiety. Limitations include the potential for self-reported bias and challenges in measuring workplace stress across different healthcare facilities.
